A visit from Steve and Shauna

This past weekend Zach's parents, Steve and Shauna, came to visit us for the weekend. We had so much fun with them! We were able to visit a few sites too which I had not been to yet this summer. We went to Mount Vernon, Amish Country, Gettysburg and one of my ancestor's home. His name is Hans Herr and he came from Switzerland as one of the main Mennonite leaders. His home, which was built in 1719, has been restored in Lancaster County, PA, and is now a historical sight. I was so happy we were able to make a quick stop there and see it. Amish country was beautiful. Althought I definitely could never live without electricity, I found myself thinking the whole time how wonderful the simple life would be. The Amish people seemed so peaceful and content. Everywhere we turned there were little buggies riding around. A few times we saw whole families in the buggies riding together. It was really cute. Gettysburg was beautiful too. We went right at dusk which was perfect. I will have to say though that Mount Vernon was my favorite place I have been this whole summer. I loved everything about it. The house was gorgeous, and it was so neat the way they had it all decorated, most of which was done with original furniture. Sometimes I think our country is lame because we don't have lots of old buildings and streets like Europe, but I have been proved wrong this last weekend. There is so much history back here, and I am so grateful I have been able to experience all of it!Apple Orchard at Hans Herr's house.
