Step 1: Make a Plan and Remain Calm!!

disclaimer: if you are confused what this post is about then see the previous post:) also, i am doing this purely for my own good. blogging it all out is helping me organize my thoughts! so if this is boring and you are confused why it is on my blog i understand. please know i will still post "normal" stuff throughout this process!

The kiddies are sleeping and I have begun! I decided today I just needed to make a plan so that I don't overwhelm myself. I tried to take pictures of everything that I want to do. I started out editing each picture and then got lazy...so sorry. Not sure how long each room will take me but I don't want to pressure myself into thinking I have to do it all in one day...or even in one week. So we begin with my kitchen.

I bought this little tray at an antique store a long time ago but I think I want to possibly paint it, and then place it as a centerpiece on my kitchen table (which also would have my table runner underneath it) and get like a cute napkin holder to put in it and salt and pepper shaker or something. Maybe a vase with a flower in it too? Not sure yet.

I bought six of these plates a while ago but have never hung them up. So I plan to find a place to put these on the wall in the kitchen.
Here is just a picture of what it looks like right now.
I always struggle with over the top of cupboard ideas. Don't mind my two random Christmas decorations that I still have up there (I am in the process of FINALLY putting that all away today). Anyways, I am not really into plant like stuff up there. Any ideas?
This just needs to be cleaned out. I want to clear it out and keep all of our board games down there since we always play them in the kitchen.
I never know what to do with this thing. I love it, but I need to find a better way to display stuff on it.
These are on one of the walls by my kitchen table. First of all I know this is so stupid, but it really bugs me that the main center picture does not have a white mat in the frame. But I need new family pics anyways now that Miss Abby is here. So I might replace that main one anyways. But I want to add more frames and arrange them differently. I don't really like the placement of them right now.
Doesn't that look so boring!? Anyways, I made pelmet boxes, which I didn't take a picture of yet, that I am going to hang over these windows. I also want to buy a big clock from Target that I like for that empty wall on the right.

This is my spice cupboard/baking stuff. It is so unorganized. It is so hard for me to find spices in there sometimes because they are basically all piled on top of each other. As I mentioned in the previous post I got some great ideas from this article in Real Simple. One of the women talked about how she organized her spices. I know it seems tedious and maybe a little excessive but I really want to buy lots of little tiny spice jars that are all uniform, label them, and keep all my spices in them. Then I want to clean out the drawer below this picture and keep them in the drawer with the labels on top so they will be super easy to find.
Spices will go here....not sure about the junk in here yet. I will find it a home.
I bought this when we were first married and when I was in love with my red kitchen. I pretty much can't handle red in decorating anything anymore because it was so overboard in that kitchen! But I still think this little mail holder is really cute. I am thinking of painting it...possible a shade of yellow? We will see....but regardless it will be painted and placed on my counter.
Believe it or not I actually just organized this pantry two days ago. It still looks a mess but this is about as good as it gets with all that food in there. I do want to clean out the top shelf though, which I have not done yet. There is also a bunch of stuff stored on the floor underneath the bottom shelf that I want to clear out. Nothing on the floor.
I wish I had one of those cupboards that there are dowel(sp?) rods standing vertically that act as dividers for pans. I am thinking maybe I could remove the middle shelf and do it myself?

These drawer contain all my cooking utensils. They often don't open or close very easily because they are so jam packed and get stuck...and I want to scream when that happens. I am trying to reorganize some other drawers, so I can move this mess into another drawer that is bigger. I also want to find a cute container that could hold some of these to just have on my counter.

This is a small cupboard space above my microwave. Really it has no purpose as of right now except that I shove random things up there that I have nowhere else to put. Yuck. I am thinking of making this the "baby stuff" cupboard and organizing the bottles and stuff up there.

This drawer also needs some help as you can see.
The infamous junk drawer. I know it will never go away, but I think there is a way that it can at least be a somewhat "organized" junk drawer.

Last, but not least, I found these knobs on sale and I love them. So I ordered them to replace the stainless steel ones I already have. I am a little nervous that there is a gold edge and a lot of stainless steel in my kitchen, but Jenna assured me that it doesn't matter. Ha. I need moral support when it comes to decorating.

OK, you go girl! Way to go posting pictures of all your trouble spots. First, I must say, your kitchen looks great as is. Your ideas will make it even better though! As far as that space above your cupboards where you don't want to put plants? I saw on a decorating show yesterday they had a space like that and put boxes up there - like square hat box type things. They did two stacks and had black and tan boxes mixed. I think it looked good. Your space may be smaller so you could get away with less boxes and maybe a big vase or something next to them. Also, I did the funnest thing in the name of organization and made a list of every drawer and cupboard and surface that needed help and went to The Container Store, which has every type of everything you could ever need. It was fun and totally motivating to get home and get my new goods put in their place. Way to go. Keep the pictures coming as you make progress!

Good luck!! We organized our kitchen when we got home and there is still more I want to do!! For your baking pans we had the same problem so we just moved the shelf up high and bought a dowel thing you are talking about at Walmart. It was like 3 dollars and it helped a lot!! Once again good luck and I can't wait to see it!!

You're giving me spring fever!!! Uh, your "mess" is not bad. Come and look at my drawers. I love your house. Take pictures of the rest and post them. I'd like to see how your kids rooms came out too. I'd better start my closet...
