No more Mr. Smiles
Poor little Andrew will not stop crying today. I was telling my friend McKell that if it weren't for the fact that he is such a sweet baby, I would probably be about to break down. But he is so sweet, and normally never cries...that it just makes me so sad for him that he is so miserable today! I can't figure out why, but he is finally asleep now for his first nap of the day (it is 4:45 P.M. WOW). Has anyone read and used the book Babywise? Well, I have been trying to do it....with hopes of Andrew starting to sleep through the night. Not working. So if anyone has any tricks as to how they got that to happen quickly with their baby I AM ALL EARS! Yet again, when I hear him start to cry at 4 a.m. and want to cry I pick him up and just want to squeeze and kiss him and forget about the fact that he woke me up. I think I am turning into a pushover...it will be interesting when I try to discipline him one day. Of course, by then he probably will not be not so sweet all the time:)

My book suggestions are "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer"--very very helpful book and Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. Both of these books were pivotal in getting my child to sleep. I do have to say he was never a good sleeper and he didn't sleep through the night until he was 8 months because we were in a 1 bedroom apartment and he slept in our room. Not a good combo. But that's a whole other story.
Katie - Hey, my husband and I know Zach and I check out your blog every now and then. We just had a baby around the same time you guys did. I just had to comment on your post because I know how you feel!!! I have been reading both Babywise and Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. And I really like the latter much better. It gives many different viewpoints and child-rearing options that are backed up by a lot of research. Its more like they realize that all babies are different because the authors provide you with different ways to do things and tell you what usually results with each and then suggests that you decide what works for your individual child. So, although I took a few good pointers from Babywise (like the eat, wake sleep pattern), I felt that it was a little narrow-minded in this respect. Maybe that was too much info, but hopefully it helps. Good luck!
Hi Katie
(It's Melissa Wright). I know exactly how you feel! I read something that said most babies can't sleep through the night until they are 13-15 pounds and can eat enough before bed. Kate is four months old and the past two nights are the first nights that she has slept completely through the night. I haven't read it personally, but a few friends really love the book Health Sleep Habits, Happy Child. Good luck!
Melissa
